Physical Fitness

I used to play basketball just about everyday. Maybe within the last year my basketball playing has dropped to once a week if I'm lucky and now it seems like its decreased to once a month. I don't exactly watch what I eat, I'm not into counting calories but as I get older my metabolism will start to slow up and eventually I'll start gaining weight with every bite I take and that worries me. My father was much skinnier than I am when he was my age and now he is almost 300 pounds. You could see where my anxiety begins. Judging from the weight my older brother is starting to gain, it is even more evident that I will also follow suit.
So I'm thinking of ways that I can get some exercise in each day that can keep me in shape and healthy. Right now the weather is getting warmer so maybe running in the morning is a good way to get some exercise but its not quite there yet. Gym memberships in my area are expensive and due to my other expenses it doesn't seem like i will be using that option right now.
So I've searched online for simple exercises that I could do besides ones that i'm already aware of like sit ups and pushups and I've been able to find all sorts of workout plans that involve things that aren't hard to get. The use of free weights in some exercises seems to be a good way to get resistance and really add to the effectiveness of the workout. I have to really become committed to my physical fitness.
