Food today

I think that one of the biggest problems that society has today is the issue with food and nutrition. It seems like everywhere we go, we're put into tough situations that force us to make decisions. As a commuter, I don't really eat on campus much (not complaining). But I remember one day last semester, I was thirsty and wanted to get a bottle of water to drink from the student activities center. The problem was that when I went to go buy it, the water was over 2.00 (I dont remember the exact price) and the soda right next to it was under that. It was as if the school was screaming at me to buy the soda because its cheaper and we want you to drink it.

But it's not only schools that present this situation to us. Society in general does it all the time as well. At supermarkets, organic foods are always pricier than food of a different kind. Healthier snacks are usually more expensive than something like chips or donuts and cake. Fast food is probably the best example of this. Why go to a place where healthy food may be offered if McDonalds, BK or any other fast food chain is right around the corner for a much cheaper price.

It's getting tougher and tougher to make the right decisions. But on the other hand, people are getting more and more educated about what the right decision may be. We're becoming a more health conscious country as a whole. But that kind of just entices some companies to try harder to appeal to people's weak points. It's a push and pull in society today. We become more aware of our health, dangers of eating certain foods, and the importance of being healthy. But at the same time, we're still being coerced into tough situations.
