Christopher Nolan

Memento, The Prestige, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, INCEPTION, and now he is working on the Dark Knight Rises. As a director he is someone who seems to be able to put on a great show. He tends to gravitate towards psychological thrillers, this no doubt evident of his choice to use the scarecrow as his villain of choice in the first batman. He likes to explore the capabilities of the mind. With Inception, he took us into dream worlds that were very cleverly executed.
I wrote a post earlier on Quentin Tarantino in which I asked or questioned if he was an auteur. I think we have to also ask if Nolan should be considered an auteur. I think there is a theme running throughout his films, like I said he likes to focus on psychological thrillers but is that enough to say he is an auteur? Well if you look at the complete control he manages over all his projects, from the actors he continues to work with, to his editor, cinematographer, writing team which includes himself, you have to say that he is an auteur. A very successful auteur at that.
You can't deny his abilities behind the camera to construct a film that is worth watching over and over again. I will make the claim that not far from now if not already they will be holding classes that only talk about his body of work as a director.
