BLOG POST #7- Best Picture Nominees

I’ve gotten myself psyched up for the Academy Awards this year. With the Academy for some reason beyond my logic deciding to select such a wide range with ten films as nominees for Best Picture, I had to get busy. Before, there was a good chance that anyone tuning into the Academy Awards would have seen the majority, if not all, of the films nominated for Best Picture, because there were only five. Now since that doubled, people really need to head out to the movies if they want to know what’s going on during the award show!

The films nominated for Best Picture this year are: Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, The King’s Speech, 127 Hours, The Social Network, Toy Story 3, and Winter’s Bone. I managed to see each of these films over the past few months… even if I had to do so by unconventional means. I am honestly shocked that some of these films were selected for this category. Winter’s Bone is plainly dull. Inception is a fun action movie, but not Best Picture worthy. Toy Story 3 is a cartoon geared for families and mainly children! Those three films shouldn’t even be in the category.

My three favorite films of the year, after careful analysis, are The King’s Speech, Black Swan, and The Kids Are All Right. The Fighter was a very enjoyable film and I think Christian Bale deserves the Best Supporting Actor award for his work in it, but the film as a whole wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever seen. The films I have chosen are each very unique in its direction, writing and compelling attitude to get people to watch. If it came down to the wire, my top two would be between Black Swan and The King’s Speech but deciding between those two are tough.
