Home Sweet Home

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. I moved to the states at the age of 17 for my senior year, and I’ve lived here ever since. My family still lives in PR so I visit every Christmas and summer, but I don’t think I would ever want to return to live there. As much as I love the island and my culture, I cannot see myself returning to PR to live permanently because of the horrible economic depression that has been going on for almost 15 years now and the third world mentality, that sadly a lot of Puerto Ricans have. Don’t get me wrong, it is a great place to visit and if the situation drastically changes, probably live, but for all its good qualities it has the same or a bit higher number of faults. For example, off the coast of PR is one of the most beautiful beaches that has been ranked one of the top 7 in the world. But that also comes with a number of corrupt government officials, and yes I understand that that is something that happens in every government, but a couple of years ago the governor blatantly stole from the government and his whole cabinet was thrown into jail, but some how this man got himself reelected. For all the amazing food and music that the island offers, you have a toll of 10 deaths a week. It hurts me to say these things about my home, but I refuse to be one of those blinded citizens that just focus on the good, because if the bad isn’t brought into the light, then nothing will ever change.
