first crash (july 2010)
okay, let’s just recap what happened.
i came back home from thrift shopping. i found another thrift store online that was only 1 mile from my house, so i decide to go check it out. as i’m walking out, i contemplate whether i should wear my helmet or not, since it’ll be a really short ride. i decide to be safe and grab my helmet and head out the door.
i ride for 2 blocks. as i’m crossing an intersection, i think to myself, “gee, adam. since you can’t stop very fast, you should probably be more careful and look further down so you don’t get hit.” i look to the left as i’m crossing the intersection. i turn to the right and look to see a car bearing down on me. i have no time to stop, and i know this. i try to swerve out of his way, but end up getting hit.
i fly off the bike onto the hood of his car. i hit against the windshield and crack it. i fall down to the ground and land on my back and hit my head. good thing i was wearing that helmet, huh?
the ambulance and police officers come. the guy that hit me was nice about it. it was probably mostly my fault anyway.
i thank God for prompting me to wear my helmet before i left the house. i need to be more careful on my bike. i can’t ride it until i replace the rear wheel. i can use the old wheel and turn it back into a ten speed, but then i won’t have a fixed gear bike… oh well. at least i’m not dead. honestly, it was kind of exciting to get hit by a car. at least i have a story to tell now. it makes my biking life more legit. i think my mom’s gonna ban me from biking for life, though….. :(
tl;dr: got hit by a car while on my bike. God saved me. i’m fortunate.
