BLOG POST #11- Tranny in the Workplace

How would you react if you encountered a transsexual in the workplace? I’m sure this is a hot topic that people would have many different reactions to. Here I’ll share my own. How would I feel if I approached the teller at a bank and noticed it was a man dressed as a woman—a transsexual. How about if I bring my little cousins to the ice cream truck for a treat and the person handing over their Chocó tacos is a transsexual? Would I feel comfortable handing over my money to this person? Would I trust a transsexual any less in the business world than I would the “normal” man or woman? Would I be okay with a transsexual around children?

When it comes to flat out business such as banking, law, contracting, taxes, etc. I wouldn’t trust a transsexual in business any less than I would the usual men or women. Why would I? A job is a job and a task is a task. No matter who you are, your sexual preference, religion, political opinions, or anything else, don’t matter when it comes to business. When it comes to business, you are a cog in a big machine. It isn’t personal and there is no reason to judge someone on a personal level.

When it comes to a transsexual interacting with children; especially in a job such as an ice cream vendor where their target clientele is in fact children, I would be weary and have my suspicions. I would try not to judge them, but I will ultimately probably try to take the children elsewhere, so that I wouldn’t have to pass judgment. I wouldn’t petition to have someone thrown out of a job or anything extreme, but to avoid personal bias, I may head elsewhere. It would be unsubstantiated judgment especially since I don’t know the person, but something would just seem a little fishy and I wouldn’t want to expose children to it.
