Institute on Technology Effectiveness for Children With Disabilities: Web-Supported Instructional Approaches grant
Dear Madam
I am a research assistant of Stony Brook University and I am writing to you about exploring innovative ways of educating children with disabilities. These children will have difficulty catching up with others and fall behind on what the latest information may be in a society where new information is always changing. Also they may not physically be able to go to other places to get a more hands on experience of different environments and the communicating with other types of people around them. Therefore by combining information available online with interactive media and visuals, the children will be able to learn what is happening outside of their rooms and stay updated as well as enhancing their opportunities for a better future. They will be able to do interact with virtual images and writing, which will develop their minds and some of their movements as there will be times where they will try to “catch” the object on the screen. Also whenever they trigger an action virtually, it will set off a chain to something in the real world. An example would be they may get an answer correct and confetti may come down.
I am requesting $5000 to fund this project. I will need a laptop; a projector, and a webcam. With these few items, it can be used in a number of classrooms and the curriculum can be easily adjusted to each child. They will be able to take part in the projections as they can interact with the images and animations and therefore have a better understanding about the subject. This project will be conducted in June of 2011.
Thank you.
