Grants - 1 & 2

New Empowerment Communication Technologies: Opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa grant and Special International Emphasis: South Africa grant

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a research assistant of Stony Brook University and I am writing to you about exploring innovative ways of educating students in the classroom. I want to contribute new ways of teaching students in countries that are lacking proper materials that will be detrimental to their learning abilities. These students will have difficulty catching up with the increasing amount of information available due to the rise in technological development and the increasing use of the World Wide Web. They will be lacking exposure to different cultural backgrounds as well as environmental knowledge because of where they live. By combining information available online with interactive media and visuals, the students will be able to learn what is happening outside of their country and stay updated as well as enhancing their opportunities for a better future.

I am requesting $5000 to fund this project. I will need a laptop; a projector, a ps3 with move controllers, and a portable solar panel keep the following items charged. With these few items, it can be used in a number of classrooms and the curriculum can be easily adjusted to match each grade. Students will be able to do video conferences with people from other countries and possibly interactive with virtual images and writing to have a better understanding of the subject at hand. This project will be conducted in June of 2011.

Thank you
