Just like Gamer Culture, Sneaker Culture is flourishing. People collect sneakers that could even cost $1000 a pair. Just like women have so many pairs of shoes, it isn't uncommon to see a guy who has 50 pairs of sneakers in mint condition. I know someone who has over 300 pairs, each costing more than $200. I myself at one time had 40 pairs at once.
Whether you collect Jordans, Nikes, Pumas, Reeboks, Adidas, Bapes or any combination, taking care of your sneakers is more than an obsession. You pay a lot of money for them and so when you get a dirt mark on them you have to bring out the toothbrushes to clean them. And for that scuff mark you can't get out by yourself, you gotta take them to a specialist. I've had so many sneakers that got messed up from all different types of accidents, such as wax stains from kicking over a candle bucket, stepping in oil leaking from a car, someone stepping on your toes, so many different situations. If you want to keep them for any good length of time, cleaning is what you have to be willing to do.
Those infamous saturday release dates when two new colorways of jordans came out. Standing in line for hours or maybe even a few days to make sure you get your pair. There are great lengths that people will go to get their hands on some highly coveted sneakers. I mentioned earlier about paying $1000 for sneakers, two examples come to mind, Kanye West's Air Yeezy's could cost you from $900-$1000 and the Jordan Defining moments package could easily cost you $1200 and some people are willing to pay it. They have sneaker exchanges where you bring your best sneakers and trade them for one another. This isn't just in NY or in the united states, this happens around the world. Its to the point that counterfeiting makes millions off it every year. They shut down one counterfeit ring and another pops up. The amounts that these big athletic companies make are beyond startling.
