grant

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Christina Chiara and I am a research assistant at Stony Brook University on Long Island, NY. I am writing to you to explore the effects that music education and music itself has on young children and young adults and how social media helps promote music.

I am twenty years old and music has been a huge part of my life ever since I was a young girl. I grew up attending public schools that put an emphasis on music education and I am incredibly thankful for that opportunity because it encouraged me to remain interested in music. Music education is a necessity because it gives children the opportunity to become invested in something that results in something positive.

Social media has become a prominent part of society today. Facebook and Twitter have become the go-to websites that young children and adults check every single day. These forms of social media connect others together and create networks with others. Because nearly every person you talk to is a member of at least one of these websites, it is hard to escape what is happening. A member can share music that he or she uploaded on YouTube, lyrics he or she wrote, or his or her favorite artist’s music video on Facebook and Twitter.

With just a digital camera, flip video camera, and/or a laptop, I will demonstrate how to share music through social media and how it is broadcasted to millions of people throughout the world. I will also talk to young adults and discover how music education helped them throughout their career and how they remained so invested in music.

Thank you,

Christina Chiara
