Body Image

We have all heard that America is the fattest country in the world, which is probably true but who are we to judge how someone looks? Who came up with this idea, this rule that “thin is in and fat is out? I think we as people should respect and accept others for who they are. Why do we feel the need to change people? Bullying someone definitely doesn’t help one’s self esteem about their body image. This is one reason why people suffer from depression and feel like outsiders. Women especially are susceptible to this illness.
I personally blame the media for this fashion of the perfect body. I believe the media has poisoned our minds into believing that if we put on a couple of pounds we are fat and I need to lose weight to be considered sexy. Models are suffering from this illness of being thin. Some of these women starve themselves just to satisfy the preferred image. If you take notice to the television shows you watch or music video’s there are hardly any overweight or obese cast, they all are slim. This kind of stigma delivers a message that this is what every female or male should look. I disagree. If you are happy they way you are why let someone tell you any different? I am aware that being overweight or being obese can cause health issues and when that is a factor relative to your health then appropriated measures should be taken.
I also blame our society because society plays a major role in our lives. Our society molds us into the present and the future. The people surrounded by us, influence our everyday lives and if you have people judging you how does that make you feel? Would you change because that’s what is wanted of you or would you remain the same because you are happy with yourself??
