Would you like tea or coffee with your cupcake?

I came home this weekend for Chinese New Year and today I worked my last shift at Crumbs. If you never heard of Crumbs before, it's a bake shop in the city that sells cupcakes, coffee, cakes, and many other baked goods. I started in December when I was on break and I can honestly say that I like this job a lot better than my previous jobs (office work, retail, childcare). Despite the few grumpy and rude customers who come in occasionally, I loved seeing the same regulars every time I worked. For example, this nice old man comes in everyday and orders a coffee and a danish. Everyday...

Working at Crumbs during Winter break definitely gave me a glimpse of "the real world". 8 hour days and 4 days a week really drained the life out of me. It also made me appreciate the fact that I'm still in school and I have the leisure to learn instead of working to pay my bills. It feels nice paying for things with my own money now but I don't view money in the same way anymore. Instead of saying, "This shirt costs 50 dollars", I would say, "That's 5 hours of work! &%*^$!"

Besides gaining a muffin top from my job, I learned a lot about customer service and improving my multi-tasking skills. I have never made a latte in my life before this and now I can make one in under 3 minutes. This job definitely tested my patience and getting over the phobia of talking to random strangers. And the most unbelievable thing is, I actually saw my 6th grade English teacher again after 7 years while I was working at Crumbs. Like really...what are the odds?
