The unfairness

My brother recently celebrated his 8th birthday and my parents got him an iPad as a birthday gift. I was completely against the idea of getting an eight year old a sophisticated electronic device such as the iPad. Compared to what I got at the age of eight, I would say my parents completely spoiled my brother.

He is the youngest of four so he is known as the ‘baby’. He is also a male, which I believe to be the focal reason why my parents spoil him the way they do. In their minds they have finally achieved on having a son and maybe they should show him how special he meant to them. My sisters and I would always get in trouble if we made him cry. I really dislike the idea of Asian parents cherishing their sons more than their daughters.

At one time when I had enough of the sibling mistreatment, I told my mom that it was obvious that she favored my brother over us. After I told her, she grew furious; she started saying she treats everyone the same and that she does not favor my brother just because he was a male. But I begged to differ, no matter how many times she said she treats us all the same I would still have that gut feeling that my brother would always be her baby and that is all thanks to the old traditional view of the male.
