What did you say what you wanted to be when you were a child? Is that what you are studying to do right now? I ask myself this. I remember in middle school when the teachers asked us what we wanted to be, many of us said doctors. Others says lawyers, and the rare few says astronauts. But is that really what we wanted to be? A lot of things we think we want to be when we grow up because we have been ingrained with these thoughts that being a doctor or being a lawyer is a proof of self worth. But not everyone wants to be a doctor. There are people who want to be musicians or comedians or artists. But how many of those people actually pursued their dream? Not many. But how many people are doing pre-med or pre-law or business programs. Alot.
I think we need to find what we really want to do. I knew that I wanted to become a manga-ka. Manga has been such a big influence for my life and many mangas moved me just like how a movie or a book would. You could convey feelings through manga just as well as any other medium but realistically it is not possible for me. To many people manga is only considered authentic when the original author is Japanese. This may not seem right, but it is correct to a degree. I seen manga drawn by English authors and it is not the same. This has always been something I wanted to do , but it is impossible for me to make a living off of. So I chose something else that I liked. This happens to a lot of us, and in extreme cases we end up hating the job we do, hating every single day of work. Is the money really worth it? I think what's important is that we choose a job that we really enjoy. I have posted a related webcomic, credit goes to explosm.net
