So I have an interview this week at a school that is my number one choice to go to after I finish up at Stony Brook. I actually already got into my second choice that I wanted to attend, so getting into this school that I will be interviewing at on Wednesday would just be "icing on the cake" if you will.
It's interesting to be interviewing for graduate schools the way that I am because I can see things from both the perspective of the interviewee as well as the interviewer as well. I am currently part of the academic and pre professional advising internship as an academic peer adviser. I've been doing this for nearly a year now. In the upcoming weeks, I am going to be interviewing students for the position that I am currently in right now. It's a pretty cool experience to be able to interview students because I can empathize with them. I am doing a lot of preparation for my interview on Wednesday, and I also know that interviewing can be a real nerve wrecking experience (from my previous interviews). So I know that when I will be interviewing the students that they will be nervous as well, so I kind of feel for them.
Honestly, when it comes down to being a successful interviewee, its all about being prepared. I know from doing a few interviews that the ones that ended up the best were the ones that I prepared the most for, even being overprepared at times. So when I am interviewing the students, I will be able to tell which ones are prepared and which ones arent. It's always better to have pre planned answers for every predicted question. Of course, you can't predict all the questions, and its at this point when you get to see how a candidate really thinks on their feet.
