Don't kill the messenger.

Everyday I head to work, I get this distressed feeling in my gut, the same thought crosses my mind.. I don't want go! Well I'm here. I work in a law office, I won't mention the name, I do have some sort of ethic code. In the morning, I am flooded with calls from angry clients demanding to know where their attorney is. I can't answer, I don't know, so I say my usual line "the attorney is on his way, please wait outside your courtroom, he will be there shortly" but he won't be. They call back and yell, trust me I want them to be there just as much as you do because for me it means one less call from you.

Don't kill the messenger, secretaries, retail workers, service jobs.. We are just trying our best but sometimes it is out of our control. I can't force the attorneys to wake up earlier, and rush to court. I am not divine, I cannot control the weather! stop giving me a shit storm. We are forced to tell you "We apologize" and "We are trying are best." Most of all don't ask me stupid questions, "Well where is he?" (do you think I have him on lojack?) "Have you called him? Did you tell him I called?" (I'm sorry I am suppose to call him, when? because you keep calling me! and YES I DID)
I understand your frustrated.. trust me I get it.. back off. I am just as frustrated as you are, and you are not the only person calling me with the same complaint. (God help those who work on customer service lines) I also understand that you have paid for a service, but I have yet to meet a lawyer who hasn't lied or appeared late to court dates. Now, granted not all attorney's are awful people, they are great when it comes to birthday presents.

Frankly, the attorney I work for takes on more than he can handle, he also charges less the average attorney. It's a give an take, do you want to pay a lot less and wait all day in court? or do you want to pay for the prompt attorney and pay twice the price? It depends how valuable your time is I suppose.
Next time your waiting, and your about to give someone a hard time, ask yourself.. is that person in charge of everything? If not.. STOP WHILE YOUR AHEAD.
Everyone out there I hope that you don't need an attorney, but when the day comes that you are waiting in court and your attorney hasn't appeared. Suck it up, wait patiently and remember.. your the one that got yourself in this mess not the secretary your yelling at.
The crazy part? I love my job. It pays for Stony Brook. PEACE!
