Foul language...

Today I went with my boyfriend to his best guy friends house. They are both in High school and are soon to be college students in the fall! his friend has a sister who is a freshman in high school. They are fun and all but there is one thing which struck me as odd. they used alot and i mean A LOT of foul language in front of their parents. it was a bit harsh on the ears but it was their house and if they were allowed to use that language so be it. though they are 18 and 14 their parents treat them like young adults. now I was brought up to not curse in front of people in power positions and/or someone of authority (you know teachers, older family members, parents all that jazz). My parents often used to use 'curse words' in front of my brothers and I but we never considered using those words around them. when i was with friends i always use foul language from about 5th grade on and it just comes naturally even if the words are not used in a negative way. now that i am back in town for spring break i have almost re-learn not to swear in front of my parents. bad habits are hard to break but going to the friends house today made me re-consider how i should (or want to) act around my family. my parents often call me an Adult and frankly i believe that i should be treated as such. If i am upset of hurt i think i have the right to use foul language without having to endure a tongue lashing from mom and dad.

Thinking about it now I wonder if my parents will ever see me as a true adult. will it be the day they let me swear in front of them? or the day i graduate from college? move out? get married? when ever they decide i just hope it will be sooner then later. everyone needs to grow up and not be a child anymore.
