Transitional period for a American families
During the 1950’s there were ads in magazines that promoted the “Your Nobody Unless you have this attitude. Such as the “keeping up with the Joneses” ads, by driving what their family drove, an expensive Chevy Sedan and a Corvette which was the cheapest car at the time. Then that eventually evolved into families thinking they needed more money. Specifically in the 1980’s where the gap between rich and poor grew between according to Sociologist Schor. In order for the rich to keep getting richer these parents would have to work longer hours or work on the weekends and for the poor families to make ends meet parents had to work two or even three jobs. It was a rat race to the bottom the rich kept getting richer and the poorer kept getting poorer. This had a direct impact on these families because parents were spending less time with their children. So the children often times feel neglected and tend to have irrational behavior and the never get the quality time with their mother or father that needed as they’re growing up. I feel that most individuals in our generation have been affect by this in some way which is why more and more think about themselves rather than others.
