strange fruit
The final poem I am talking about is “Strange Fruit” by Abel Meeropol. This poem is probably best known by Billie Holiday recording it to a song. This hands down is open of the most powerful poems I have ever read. “Strange Fruit” refers to a time where segregation was a big part of this country and African Americans were often lynched from trees. Which is where the term Strange Fruit came from, dead African Americans swinging side by side on a tree branch . Its really sad that events like this was seen as enjoyment for white people. This is a blues poem because its talking about the struggle and hard times that African Americans lived through and you can imagine what’s going on just by reading the poem.
