Active Noise-Cancelling (or Active Noise Reduction)
This techonology has been out in the market, designed for general consumers' level for a long time, but I think the price is still a bit high not many people would purchase it. For the frequent-flyer, this is a great technology to isolate yourself in the flight cabinet while the plane engines are making the disturbing sound. The way that ANC emits the surrounding sound down is by producing invert sound waves so that the noise and the invert wave cancel each other out. Unlike passive noise-canelling, it blocks the sound wave through the sponge-like cups that cover the ears.
I don't fly that often, but I do fly, in average, every half years. I travel back to Taiwan almost every summer, and visit North Carolina, if my grandparents were there. Actually, flying is not the major reason. The reason why I purchase the ANC headphone is because of my suitmate, who has been playing loud music for nearly a year. It would be really fine if he plays his music in the day. Yet, he plays the music EVERY SINGLE F____(excuse me..) NIGHT from 11pm to 5am. I am a sensitive person, I can be bothered by very little noise. He plays loud music with strong base! OH MY GOD!!! So I really believe that ANC headphone would help me a great deal.
Before I made the purchase, I had a struggle deciding which ANC headphones I should buy, 'Bose® QuietComfort® 15 ANC® Headphones' or the one I now owned. I read so many reviews. These two are the top two headphones which people are in favor of. While BOSE offers a better level of noise-cancelling, Audio Technica is more economically beneficial. One thing about Audio Technica that somewhat bothered people, is its sound leak. For the cup style ANC headphones, sound leak is a huge issue. For example, when you are on a plane, and sound leak would be really annoying to the one who sits next to you. Although this is not a big thing for me, but I was afraid that I will pay something that doesn't worth that much, since I had a bad experience on ebay.
Finally, I made a decision and the package arrived 1 day earlier than the estimation. The retail price was around $219, but I bought it for $131, which is a good deal. I don't think you can find other good ANC headphones with this low price because the price is usually $300 or above for the ANC headphones. This headphones offer me a great comfort. I have to admit, yes, there's a sound leak problem, but it's not that bad, and WHO CARES IF YOUR SUITEMATE IS ANNOYING!!
