Recently, my boyfriend helped get me an ipad per my request, and I instantly fell in love with it. It's everything I could honestly want in a device. It's pretty big, works mostly like a computer, but it's far more convenient. You can have games, GPS, awesome apps, music, and it's amazingly portable. I have a keyboard for it as well and have been typing my notes on it. I've pretty much been an addict since i've gotten it and have been treating it as if it were a child.
I got a 64gb ipad(original) so that I can have enough space for movies and whatnot. I was contemplating getting the ipad2, but the only difference among the two is that one has a camera and the other does not. I don't really need a camera because I already have a laptop anyways, the the function is not necessary for the extra money.
If anyone wants one, I recommend it highly. It'll be your new best friend. Except cooler.
