For students here at Stony Brook, I feel as though something amazing has come about that is going to make the academic life much easier. Recently released, the sinc site now allows you to access the computer as a virtual computer from ANYWHERE you are, thats right anywhere. Whether your sitting in your dorm room and are too lazy to visit a sinc site or your across the country visiting your relatives, you now have that service at your hands.
The idea is so simple and has been implemented in businesses throughout the globe however never in an academic setting. The process is very easy to follow as well. Just grab a computer, visit the IP address provided by the sinc site and your instantly looking at the desktop as if you were sitting at the sinc site. This means that you have access to all your SB files, all programs loaded on the computer, as well as storage that can be held on the network.
I feel that technology is more beneficial than ever. Services such as these allow students who are not as financially set to be granted access to programs that normally cost hundreds of dollars. This then has the domino effect and leads to a better education and better jobs. Stony Brook has really done something amazing this time and I hope that everyone can take advantage of this amazing service.
