The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene
Law 35
Master the Art of Timing
Never seem to be in a hurry – hurrying betrays a lack of control over yourself, and over time. Always seem patient, as if you know that everything will come to you eventually. Become a detective of the right moment; sniff out the spirit of the times, the trends that will carry you to power. Learn to stand back when the time is not yet ripe, and to strike fiercely when it has reached fruition.
"speak softy and carry a big stick?" I think people would not be too happy to see an erratic ruler so staying calm and collected would give you a significant advantage. The problem is that some people are so impatient, then cannot even portray the image of a patient person. For example, I know some things will come to me eventually but some times when you want something... You want it now. Sometimes waiting months or years is just too much. I guess when you're waiting for power, if that's what you really want and if there's no way around it, it's just what you have to do.
Law 36
Disdain Things you cannot have: Ignoring them is the best Revenge
By acknowledging a petty problem you give it existence and credibility. The more attention you pay an enemy, the stronger you make him; and a small mistake is often made worse and more visible when you try to fix it. It is sometimes best to leave things alone. If there is something you want but cannot have, show contempt for it. The less interest you reveal, the more superior you seem.
Ok, I think some of these laws can be a little out there... But this one should be taught in every high school in the world. High school drama would be redefined.. If it would exist at all. Its sad to see some of the same drama in college... If only there was a class on this in high school and people really got this drilled into their heads. Sometimes you just have to let things go, I'm really surprised with how much energy some people put into unnecessary fights and drama. Do something else.. read a book... Read THIS book.
