I'm telling this story ONLY because it can pretty much be made into a movie with the amount of drama that occurred.
For most of the semester, I had no roommate, which was fantastic. Having a whole room to yourself in Stony Brook is pretty much a dream come true. However, halfway through the semester, A girl named Joanna(name changed) moved in. It was a bit odd, because she didn't bring bags in, but brought handfuls of clothing in instead. Immediately I knew she was going to be a dirty roommate and was already dreading the days to come.
I'll admit it, I'm a neatfreak, and I like everything to have its place. Joanna, however was a dirty wreck. She never closed her drawers, had the nerve to leave underwear on her desk, and papers were everywhere. She also had a fowl odor that I couldn't stand. She started making me sick to my stomach. She exploded two bags of pretzels, one in the common room, and one in our room, and she didn't even clean. It was unsettling to come back and see crumbs on my side of the room.
If it was just that, I wouldn't have done anything, but she was also extremely inconsiderate of everyone in the suite. We have a few suite rules, that are simple and extremely doable. One is to turn the lights off when they're not in use, and the other is to recycle. She didn't follow either, and everyone was getting angry. She also wasn't considerate of me as she would stay naked after her showers and lotion without clothes on. For me, I was extremely uncomfortable as sometimes I had to wake up to that, and it's not my type of thing.
She freeloaded as well because she hadn't brought anything from home. No laptop, no fridge, no calculator. I know for a fact that her professor had to buy her the calculator, which isn't his responsibility if you ask me. She would use the laptops of everyone in the suite and I let her use my fridge. But I was pushed over the edge one day when she left a half opened ice cream in my freezer and caramel got all over. I couldn't stand how inconsiderate she was being. I took all her stuff out of the fridge/freezer and told her not to touch it anymore. From there, me and her got into a huge argument over spring break, and I told her everything that bothered me. It was frustrating because she accused me of being the messy one and that I was the one making everything full of tension. She couldn't think of any proof. Over the days we came back from the break, we had many fights, many scream wars until she threatened to touch/steal my stuff. And not only that, but she had said it in front of other people. So me and my suite all complained about her to my RhD, and apparently, he has had this issue with her before since she moved from a different suite, where she also had issues. He said he'd do what he can, and within a day, she agreed to move out, but she was acting awful slow at it. I asked her when she would, and she just yelled at me and my suitemate and said she could move out whenever she wanted and that she paid for the room and can do whatever she wanted. That isn't the way things work. I emailed my RhD, and she was out within hours.
I ended up contacting her old roommate and apparently they had far more problems than she and I ever had. Joanna actually threatened her old roommate physically, which isn't okay.
Needless to say, Joanna is psycho.
