I learned about the economics of bottled water last year in my SSO class. It was a freshmen seminar class on sustainability. I did a whole presentation on how much money and resources it took to produce bottled waters. The conclusion: It's cheaper and more green to drink tap water or filtered tap water. In an ABC documentary, a survey was done and the number 1 choice of bottled water after multiple taste tests is AQUAFINA. Do you know where Aquafina gets their water? From the TAP. Yup. It's just filtered tap water to ensure that "pure" taste.
A lot of people know that it's greener to not buy bottled water but do we act on what we know? No. I definitely don't. I buy bottled water from the SAC all the time. Why? Because it's more convenient for me than to filter and refrigerate my own water everyday. I do want to make a habit of filtering my water and bringing it to class. I hope that next semester it's going to be easier since I'm living in West Apartments and I'm canceling my meal plan. Then I'll have no excuse to "spend money on my card" on bottled water.
