The web and learning

For a while I've been thinking about a discussion I had from another class. This is whether the web has change our ways of learning for the better or for the worse. Today we can gather information on a subject in a matter of minutes from a simple google search. But consider how learning was back then before the web. People would search books, look for experts, go to museums, etc. Sure the web provides us with information quick and efficiently but it also takes away the experience of learning. Also sometimes information you gather from the web is easily forgettable. You also lack first hand experience and it's not as enjoyable. What I ponder on the most is would students do better in school had they had no internet to search for their information? But screw it, no matter how much I ponder though I'm still gonna do research on the web.
