languages and misconceptions
Like this, language has always faced many misconceptions. In this video, dialect became an issue for the german as he was trying to figure out what the english coast guard was saying. This, surprisingly, happens a lot. During my Business class, we talked about companies marketing and advertising in other countries. But with a famous slogan of theirs can mean something totally different in another country. For example, Frank Perdue’s slogan, created for its chicken products, said “It takes a strong man to make a tender chicken”. Translated in Spanish, it became “It takes an aroused man to make a chicken affectionate”. Another example is when Coors, the Colorado brewing company, had another slogan unfortunately translated into Spanish. “Turn It Loose”, when translated in Spanish, carries the meaning “Suffer from Diarrhea." Funny, eh?
