Graduation? Yeah, bring it, I've landed a job!

Talk about success! I guess just as a little background info... I've been interning at a small production company since mid December. We do videos for corporations as well as hotel and museum installations. I've had the luxury of editing videos both with the company as well as freelancing. So anyway, going on to today's glorious day...

Had a business lunch with my boss to talk about the new company, because they're splitting. I have been offered a job that will start in April. The details as far as how compensation will be has not been worked out yet, but it seems like I will be getting a base salary as an Office PA and then freelanced based hourly/day rates for the various projects I’ll be working on. So if I go on set as a production assistance, the rate will be different from an editing project I may be doing for a different client. Seems like as of now, benefits will not be included, but I can still be covered under my parents’ insurance, so that’s fine. I will feel more at ease once I know how much I’ll be expecting to make though. Regardless, the fact that I have a job even before I graduate, in the film industry in NYC is great! I’ve got a foot in the door already. It’s a new company that’s starting up, so I get to see what it takes to start up a small business, which is essentially what I plan on doing in the future. The experience this internship has already given me and will continue to provide for me is beyond amazing. The job already starts this weekend with setting up the new FTP server, e-mail addresses and template designing for the new website.

It's funny to think that a few months ago, I may have not made this call for an internship had I still been in a relationship. At that time I chose to become a domesticated housewife, putting my passion for film and technology aside. To be honest, the break up was mortifying, but that was the kick I needed to pursue my career, because I realized, that's real stability in life. So a word of advice to everyone, follow your passion and worry about your own well-being before settling down and taking another person's burden into your life.

I like the moment when a plane lands. The altitude is getting low. The plane is shaking. And I started seeing the ground. The picture is a view of Manhattan from the plane. This big city always fascinates me. Lights, cars. I love this view.

College Students Don't Learn

Just a little article that I came across a little while ago that I can definitely relate to. My explanation for this is that most college students don't really know what they want to do with their lives after a few years in college, or just because the major that they're in, the hard classes for them don't really start until their Junior year. Most colleges apply some sort of general curriculum upon their students that requires them to take a whole bunch of different classes that they may not need, are not interested in, and consider them easy. Therefore, the students feel like they can get away with not going to class or studying, and just slack off.

Since the existence of human beings, we have always pondered “how did this all start?” Before people developed the proper technology and knowledge to fully investigate such a question, the concept of spontaneous generation was widely accepted. . It was believed that living things were created from decaying, already dead organic matter. Also, due to the heavy influence of religion, not many scientists fully researched a topic so controversial with the church. However, in today’s day and age, science can point us in the right direction to discover where did it all really come from?
Sure enough, in 2008, scientists discovered some 3.5 billion year old volcanic rock with traces of carbon that was once made up of living organisms. One scientist called the rock “some of the oldest most robust evidence of life.” In 1970, a team of scientists unexpectedly bumped into a thriving ecosystem around a hot water vent deep under the Pacific Ocean. This provides evidence that life can thrive deep under the water, in a water-based environment. Basic organic molecules spew from these volcanic vents, and could be the birthplace of life on planet earth.

people nowadays

You know what's annoying nowadays? The fact that people seemingly can't park anymore. Right now, I drive a 2000 camry to South P every day. I've been driving that for the past 3 years and parking at South P. I must have over 50 different dents on my car, all around the car door area from people opening their doors and hitting my car. I guess when someone has an old car and doesnt care about it, then they don't take any precaution when it comes to opening their doors onto other cars. It's pretty annoying.

The reason I chose to blog about this is because yesterday when I came back to my car after finishing class and getting ready to go back home, I saw that my car had a new dent, but this time it was noticeably bigger than the rest. Of course, I have no idea who did this. But I remember that when I parked there earlier that morning, there was a really old car parked next to me. I didn't think anything of it, but in hindsight I probably should have moved my car out of the way. I guess I have no one to blame but myself for putting myself in that situation.

But seriously, it's common courtesy to not park that close to someone that you cant open your door without hitting them. And if you find that you are close to someone and cant avoid it, theres always a way to get out of the car without hitting the one next to you. It seems that people (students) are so caught up in other things (like school, tests, jobs, etc.) that they can't remember to employ some common courtesy to their fellow drivers. No wonder my parents always told to hold off on getting a new car until I finish college.
