There are almost as many weight loss products at this point as there are stars in the heavens. But is that fast weight loss that they promise really guaranteed? Can these products live up to the promise of a healthy, fit body?

In the US today, an estimated 50 million people try to lose weight annually, but unfortunately only about 5% are successful. The promise of a "magical way" to lose weight is too enticing for some and the result is plenty of money spent on products with little result. Some of the more bizzare methods have included magnetic diet pills, guar gum, electrical muscle stimulators and eyeglasses that suppress appetite by projecting images on the retina!

Here are some of the examples of weight loss products on the market today:

- Herbalife Program. Dieters rely on shakes with two meals per day and herbal supplements. The diet is not sustainable as normal healthly eating patterns are not incorporated into the diet.
- Nestle's Sweet Success. Recommended to take three times per day. The inital quick weight loss is difficult to maintain once the product is stopped.
- Ultra Slim Fast. A diet drink or powder to mix with beverages that is a meal substitute. Once again, good eating habits are not taught nor maintained. Weight loss is usually regained after stopping the drinks.
- Diet pills containing Ephedra and/or PPA (phenylproanolamine hydrochloride). These products have been proven to raise blood pressure and heart rate with even one dose. Many body builders have made the mistake of taking these products just before working out and the results have ranged from heart palpitations to hypertensive crisis (dangerous blood pressure levels).
- Chitosan products. These contain fibers from shellfish and can cause diarrhea and gas. Once again if a healthy diet is not in place, with exercise, these pills have little effect.
- Chromium supplements. Claims have ranged from lowering blood sugar levels and body fat but in reality the doses that could cause this are too high to be tolerated. Those doses have the potential for anemia and most studies have shown minimal or no beneficial effects.
- Green Tea Extract. This is a well known anti-oxidant which in sufficient quantities could benefit the immune system, but there is no evidence that it could cause significant weight loss.
- St. John's Wort. A mild anti-depressant that has known interactions with many medications and several foods such as preserved cheeses and tyramine. Therefore, it is difficult to work into a healthy diet regimen.
- Xenical. Proven in clinical trials and FDA approved for weight loss. This product binds to fat in the gastrointestinal system but may result in bloating and gas. It tends to work best when worked into a sensible diet and exercise program.

Well, that covers some of the more popular products. The final verdict is that no matter how much "magic" you are looking for, there just isn't any. It took awhile to gain the weight after all, and it will take some time to lose it. You will still have to heat fewer calories than you burn on a daily basis. If you do decide to choose a particular weight loss product or program, be sure to research it thoroughly first.

Fast Five

I am a car enthusiast, so naturally I am a Fast and Furuious fan. I have seen all of the movies and have not been extremely impressed by any of them except for Tokyo Drift. That's expected because me myself am a drifter. However the most recent Fast and Furious has trully shown us a different side to the fast and furious story. This movie is definitely worth a watch in theatre and a purchase on bluray when available...

Transformers and tracking

So yet another Transformers is being released and some people are excited and some are just dissapointed. People are saying that the plot is very basic and it's all graphics. As a visual Artist I go to see the visuals as should anyone else. It's a movie, a moving Picture. This movie shows what is impossible of happening in a way that makes it seem possible. Animation and VFX incorporation is a very hard feat. When I watch theses movies I go crazy thinking how they were able to motion track everything. Motion tracking is what helps keeping things in a Virtual space so they stay in the appropriate place when incorporating them into captured film.

SES CONFERENCE REVIEW

SES 2011

Not that many people are currently aware of what the internet is capable of. People generally see it as a tool for research and entertainment. However the internet in the right hands can makes millions. I personally used to make anywhere from 300 dollars a day to over a thousand dollars a day online at the age of 15 on the internet. When you know when a niche is going to explode and know how to use the internet appropriately you can make a lot of money. This year was the first time I have seen Stony Brook University reach out into the world of making money on the internet. I applaud Professoer, Abbruscato for making it possible for me and other students to attend this conference. As I walked throughout the conference and had in depth conversations about online marketing with leading professionals in the field I felt extremely comfortable as though these people were in my crowd... like I could do business with them. I have never experienced that in my life as far as business is concerned.

I’m also happy that other students were open minded about the experience as well. I feel like a lot of people did not understand what was going on because of the terminology speakers were using such as SEO, CPA, PPM etc but they still took information in with an open mind and did not shy away from asking questions and being involved. I personally took a lot from the experience and have been moving forward in my online empire. I started this year with 5 domains and now have over 15. I have a new website coming out by July 3rd that I am foreseeing a Large amount of success for.

Now having said that the SES Conference had opened my eyes, I'd like to mention that so has the Brand Management Class. I am not sure if this class was available before but I do not recall seeing it earlier semesters. This class has helped me personally brand and set a tone for every one of my companies and websites. Whether it be my clothing company "Ricoche' , or my car parts drop shipping service at "Immortalized Customs", this class has showed me how to effectively create each of the marketing elements. The combination of this class and the SES conference has made this semester am experience that will make more successful than if I hadn’t undergone this. It was truly a transformation. Granted a lot of the information given to me at the SES conference I already knew, I still got revolutionary concepts that I was unaware of, along with priceless contacts.

In conclusion, I do believe the SES conference should be available for everyone and anyone interested majoring in Business, and even Digital Arts. It is an untapped realm that is filled with promise of success. I admire and thank Professor Abbruscato for not shying from the unknown and allowing her students to experience what the new age of Marketing and Branding is heading instead of simply teaching us the traditional methods used as other professors have done. Modern day marketing is more than print ads and radio commercials.
