Cheating is a socialized taboo

One of the biggest issues that arise in young couples is cheating. When I say young I am refering to ages 15-22 give or take. I assume that after 22 someone is looking for a relationship that will eventually lead to marriage. Most young people fight and break-up over cheating or the threat of cheating. Most young couples fight over text messages/calls/facebook posts from the opposite sex. Why are we so worried that the one we love will "betray" us by cheating? I will tell you why..because we are YOUNG and in our prime. We should be allowed to wonder what it would be like with someone esle because young relationships is about finding what you want for a future spouse. I am not an advocate of cheating, I just believe that young relationships should be set up differently. We are socialized to believe that when you commit to a person you are bound to them and only them for that amount of time and if you go out of your boundrys you are unfaithful and a bad person. I think that us young people should date. I am not saying lie to your partner and see others behind their back, but young relationships should be open. It would prevent alot of people from being hurt and if you really love someone you can become serious at a later time and form an exclusive relationship. We are trained to be hurt if our other decides to pursue someone esle, but what if it was acceptable and everyone in society had a "young relationship" and you could speak about that person saying..I think one day he is the one I will be monogous with.. or .. I am still looking. It would save alot of dreadful breakups and fights.
Take someone like myself who has been with my boyfriend for 5, almost 6 years. We started dating our junior year of high school! We both cheated the first year of college and it was heartbreaking. We broke up for a little while and ended up back together. I love him to death but I still wonder what it would be like to be on my own or even to date someone esle. We are really good together and I could see myself with him in my future but I dont want to have to "wonder". All I am saying is now would of been a good time to start getting serious with him.. not when i was 17! The whole system should be redesigned.

Cheating Schemes

Cheating.... the most foul thing you can do to your "beloved" boyfriend or girlfriend. It lets the other person know that you never truly loved them enough to be honest. It's especially agitating when you are the friend caught in between the madness. let me explain:

there's three of us who have been tight friends since September. for security reasons (through my compassion for them has decreased greatly) lets call them 'Leah' and 'Paul'. We all were just friends first semester and all was well (all was fantastic if i may say so myself). Now a days things are more complicated. not only does Leah have a boyfriend, but she still finds it appropriate to share a bed night after night with Paul (who probably will never find happiness because he is stuck on Leah for some godforsaken reason). Paul also finds it appropriate to put his hands all over Leah in the most inappropriate places. I have a boyfriend and we have been in a happy relationship for years so i see the value in being faithful to the person I love. it makes me sick to see Leah cheating and sit back and allow her real boyfriend to be deceived and cheated upon.

See that is what is wrong with America today, people like Leah are out to satisfy their own desires and deceive others to achieve that goal of total satisfaction. Paul is boarder-line suicidal over the fact that no girl wants him in a serious way. all Leah does is make it worse for everyone by pretending to love Paul but never quite going all the way because Paul had nothing to offer Leah financially. Leah's boyfriend is very protective but it's pretty hard to be protective from Florida when Leah is basically hooking up with Paul in New York. it's all smoke and mirrors, and her boyfriend falls for it every time. first it was a $200 diamond ring for their one month anniversary, Then the outrageous amounts of money for him to fly up here to come and see his "one and only love, Leah" and to fly her down to Fl to meet his friends. The list of money spent and gifts given goes on and on. it's really pathetic for people to use others for their own personal gain. Next thing you know she'll have guys all over the country spending money on her because "she's the one" (THE THOUGHT MAKES ME SICK).

One may ask "but Mackenzie how does this effect you? why should you care?" well dear reader it effects me because her antics with Paul effect my social status. would YOU want to be known as the girl with the cheating best friend? the one who tolerates disrespect for the idea of love and honesty? i've done nothing wrong but make good friends first semester. doing the right thing should never receive such a terrible title. the fact that my two friends have become my biggest pet peeve in the world is effecting me deeply. maybe my values are different from Leah's (possibly). maybe I should just let her boyfriend know she's using him for strictly his money (seems like a logical conclusion). never the less this can't end well for any of us...
