I recently read an article about how in the US we are drilling into the plates and forcing high-pressure water through the rocks to release natural gases for resources. We are destroying the bedrock beneath us for fossil fuels, without really thinking about the long term damage destorying our land will have on us. Can we please stop destorying our delicate planet and live in harmony with it? Mother nature will continue to live on after the human race, just as it did before we existed. We are mearly a single species that will live on Earth for a fraction of its existence. I believe we should respect the land that nurtures us instead of continually destroying it. If we don't begin to change the way we care for our land, we are only bringing our demise closer and closer through our negative actions.
Surely, we are the only species with the brain capacity for reasoning and logic, making humans the "most intelligent" animal. But we are also the most damaging species to the planet. Animals see a plant or a tree as food or shelter; we see it as commodity and material goods. We will destroy a tree to make disposable paper. We have no respect for nature and its preservations. Continually, rainforests in Brazil are destroyed for lands to raise cattle on for our McDonalds burgers. Proper care for the land isn't implemented, as soil should be given off-seasons to recover. Instead we over-crop lands and destroy its rich soils, creating acres of unusable lands as nothing will grow in it anymore. We move on to the next patch of soil to destroy and mistreat.
So we possess knowledge. We possess the skills to reason. We can make complicated decisions. We can built skyscrapers and islands. We can alter properties of chemicals and collide particles. We can travel into space. But with every advancement we make, we are destroying the planet. Soon enough, we will come to realize that our time on Earth is limited, and then reflect upon the various ways we could have prevented it. By that time, it'll be too late to reverse the damage. The human race will quite possibly die out, and mother nature will spend centuries building back the damage we've caused. Sometimes I think animals are smarter and better than humans because they live life just to live. They respect nature. They create a circle of life, purpose to other specifies. I feel that all we know is how to kill and destroy everything and anything. People make me sad :(
