In continuation with my last post, this question has similar background information. Compared to thirty years ago, the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from three decades ago might be a masters or PHD. Also there is another factor: almost everyone is qualified, some in more ways than others. There are so many people in the job force today as well. A good idea with a perverse incentive was the implementation of minimum wage; it was created to give people a “living” wage. But what ended up happening was suburban kids started taking those jobs, like supermarket jobs or restaurant employment. Today even with a higher degree it could be hard to find a job in this market. Going to college may not be required for some jobs, and they can be well paying, especially if there are chances for promotion in the company. So it is a lot harder to find jobs in today’s job market, due to various factors.
