Am I ready?

I got all the credits. Wrote all the papers.. am I ready?? I think I'm going to have to sign up for a few more years of school, I still want to have fun! I'm young and this just can't be over..
As I get closer to graduation day one song keeps playing in my head. No it's not the catchy "who run the world (girls)" song by Beyonce.. Its John Mayer. Yeah I know.. John Mayer? but his first song.. No Such Thing. Youtube it.. you'll understand.

"Welcome to the real world", she said to meCondescendinglyTake a seatTake your lifePlot it out in black and whiteWell I never lived the dreams of the prom kingsAnd the drama queensI'd like to think the best of meIs still hidingUp my sleeveThey love to tell youStay inside the linesBut something's betterOn the other sideI wanna run through the halls of my high schoolI wanna scream at theTop of my lungsI just found out there's no such thing as the real worldJust a lie you've got to rise aboveSo the good boys and girls take the so called right trackFaded white hatsGrabbing creditsMaybe transfersThey read all the books but they can't find the answersAnd all of our parentsThey're getting olderI wonder if they've wished for anything better( From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/j/john-mayer-lyrics/no-such-thing-lyrics.html )While in their memoriestiredtragediesThey love to tell youStay inside the linesBut something's betterOn the other sideI wanna run through the halls of my high schoolI wanna scream at theTop of my lungsI just found out there's no such thing as the real worldJust a lie you got to rise aboveI am invincibleAs long as I'm aliveI wanna run through the halls of my high schoolI wanna scream at theTop of my lungsI just found out there's no such thing as the real worldJust a lie you've got to rise aboveI just can't wait til my 10 year reunionI'm gonna bust down the double doorsAnd when I stand on these tables before youYou will know what all this time was for

Matthew Gelman Post #1 Its all way too real

Is anyone else feeling overwhelmed? I know i am! Im comming into the home stretch here at Stony Brook with one year left under my belt and thank god! I know 16 years of school is plenty for me so im getting excited to finally hold that diploma in my hand. Theres one thing that im nervous about though...what happens after that? My parents are moving away across the country, i only have part time jobs, the economy sucks, and ill still be in a long distance relationship. But on top of that i have this pressure to live up to in my family.

I am the first child finishing college in my family and more importantly setting REALISTIC goals. No mom, there was no way you were going to become a veterinarian without any schooling and dad you were not going to launch space ships in NASA hardly knowing any math. I took on computer science here at Stony Brook because i have a deep understanding and more importantly a passion for innovation. I hope that i will excede everyones expectations.

So freshman year is over; the house parties and keg stands all seem so yesterday and more importantly and new chapter in my life is about to begin. So even with hesitation, im ready to dive in and take it all. Im ready to take on the working world with the hints and inspirations i have come across in the past. Im ready!
