spring break

Most people look for breaks during a school year and spring break would be the most anticipated one. It is almost like summer vacation due to the illusion of the nice and warm weather but the disappointment would be the vacation is only one week long.

I was pretty disappointed in the fact that our, Stony Brook’s, spring break is on the third week of an April; while other schools are around the month of March. Most of my friends are on their breaks right now and I am unhappy since I am unable to see or hang out with them. But on the brighter side, most of my friends want to visit the campus and see my life here. I told most of them it is not as glamorous as they think it would be and hopefully after their visit they could understand why. Maybe it is because I am dorm while they commute to their schools.

The only disadvantage of having a spring break during April is that all the midterms are crammed into one or two weeks before the vacation. The advantage of it is that the week that we come back on does not include any midterms we are required to study for during our break. Another advantage is that the vacation makes an illusion that the term ends quicker since finals week is right around the corner.

Red mango or Pinkberry

I cannot express my love for frozen yogurts. I think I am BLESSED to be able to eat it every day, but unfortunately I am not so I do not get it every day. There are two main frozen yogurt stores that are very well known in New York, Redmango and Pinkberry.

At first when I tried both the original yogurts, I did not taste anything different between the two. After a while of tasting, I am able to determine that the Pinkberry has more of a sour and tangy taste than the creamy and milky taste of the Redmango. I am more of a sour girl so I tend to like Pinkberry better. Honestly speaking, I enjoy eating frozen yogurt more than ice cream. Compared to ice creams, yogurts are much lower in calories.

The toppings for the yogurt is a must! Redmango’s policy for toppings for a medium size cup is limited to 3 toppings, whereas in Pinkberry a medium size is valid for unlimited toppings. Therefore, I believe Pinkberry is a win win situation for me.

I love how the girl in the video directs the offence, assault, or whatever she is ranting about to strangers she does not know. Even though people are strangers, they are still human and led lives just like any other person. I found her to be rather unethical to point fingers at strangers just because of the fact that she does not know the person. Strangers are human and also have feelings; not to mention she only pointed fingers to a specific group, the Asians, which is very racist. I do not hate her because of her thoughts and opinions, but I find her to be rather ignorant since she took all that time and effort to even post up such a video. I heard she deleted her original video as well as her youtube channel, but I rather prefer an apology video towards those who did get affected by the video.

the Ipad2

I am laughing so hard to my brother and my parents, since they recently got my brother an iPad and now the iPad2 is out. I truly feel bad for my parents. I know they tried to do a good thing by buying an iPad for my brother since he does not have a computer, but now the iPad2 is out and it is obviously better than the iPad.

I dislike how the Apple Company would always release a newer and more improved product in just a few months after they launched the first product. To me I would feel like I wasted a lot of money. It is also a human lust to gain the newer item even though you already have the older version of the same item. In the past there was the iPod then the iPod Nano, the iPod classic, the iPod touch, and etc. I really loathe the way the company promotes different products so rapidly. I would not complain if the iPad was actually the ‘hot’ item for a year before the iPad2 came out.

However, I must agree that the iPad2 is a lot better than the iPad. It is sleeker and a little smaller than the original. The graphics is slightly better and there is a camera so you could do face time with friends or whoever. I pity my brother and parents.

my weekend

The start of my weekend was boring. For the whole week I used my time to study for the statistic and sociology midterms that were coming up. After conquering each test, I realized that I was not done yet and still had the Chemistry and Biology midterms to study for.

I did not want to stress out about these two midterms just yet so I was looking for some fun for my weekend. On Saturday, there was nowhere to go and nothing to do so I stayed at my dorm studying for the two courses. Sunday was a total different day from Saturday. I actually got to go out with my friends to take my mind of the midterms. We went to Walmart, and I must say we, or at least I, had a lot of fun.

There were so many fun things to do at the toy section, so many buttons to press. The only downfall of that day was the long wait for the bus to come so we could get back on campus. Going to Walmart was rather beneficial for me since it relieved most of my stress.

So I recently finished watching a Taiwanese drama called “Smiling Pasta.” It is a cute themed drama that approaches romance in a cute perspective. The drama also shows how some Asian people believe in curses and superstitions.

Here is a small synopsis of the drama: Xiao Shi is a girl who has gone through 17 relationships, but always broke up by the third month, she was cursed with a three-month curse by Ah Zhe. After being dumped by her 17th boyfriend, she gave up on hope to love another guy. At that time, a famous idol, He Qun runs past, bumps into Xiao Shi, and they end up "kissing" on the street. Paparazzi swarmed by and titled the kiss as secret affair behind He Qun's girlfriend Rita, to not make He Qun look bad, his manager declared Xiao Shi as He Qun's girlfriend of one year and fiancée. Thus, a love contract was made. This story is about how the "Fake" couple learns to like each other after having disagreements in the beginning, as well as fighting the injustices the media throw at them. Even Ah Zhe and Rita come back into the love triangle! Everyone wants to find love, will He Qun and Xiao Shi be together, or will they be parted by Ah Zhe and Rita and will Xiao Shi finally break her 3 month curse?

The character Cheng Xiao Shi has a lot of courage. I believe it was her family that made her so courageous with their love and support. It is pretty ironic, because in reality some Chinese parents do not approach their kids with soft love, they show them tough love. Sometimes I believe tough love makes the child feel unloved and forced to grow up quicker. On the other hand, soft nurturing and caring only leads the child feeling wanted and being more reliant on his or her parents.

This is my favorite clip out of all my texture of time clips. Reason? In my perspective, life is just like the rose; the different colors the rose goes through represents our mood in life. We could be happy, sad, excited, etc but no matter what we feel or do we would always be the same person as a human, just like how the rose is still a rose even though it changes color.

There is this show on the CW channel called Nikita. Here is a brief summary of the show: When she was a deeply troubled teenager, Nikita was rescued from death row by a secret U.S. agency known only as Division, who faked her execution and told her she was being given a second chance to start a new life and serve her country. What they didn't tell her was that she was being trained as a spy and assassin. Throughout her grueling training at Division, Nikita never lost her humanity, even falling in love with a civilian. When her fiancé was murdered, Nikita realized she had been betrayed and her dreams shattered by the only people she thought she could trust, so she did what no one else before her had been able to do: she escaped. The character Nikita is played by Maggie Q. One of the most used phrase to describe this show is “Looks do Kill.” I enjoy watching this show not only for the action but also for the way it displays the fact that women are not weak. There is nothing scarier than a woman seeking for revenge.

night classes...

Last term I did something ridiculous and chose a morning class, it was dreadful. I had to wake up at 7 am just to get to class at 8 am. That’s when I found out I was not a morning person.

So this term I decided to go with night classes; but it was not an option since all the afternoon classes were taking, a big disadvantage of being a freshman. I would say it is better than waking up early in the morning however, it is quite annoying how I have no classes until 6pm. I guess I am just like any other freshmen stuck with a very bad schedule. I do not like how the system to join a class works. Whoever has the most credits gets the first priority in signing up for a class. However, all universities and colleges operate the same way so there is no point on complaining.

I wonder if private schools have as much problems as we do when we sign up for classes. I would think they deal with the same problems since the class sizes are smaller in private schools hence more competition to get into the class.

Last weekend

Last weekend I was able to return back to Brooklyn and meet my old high school friends. It was a lot of fun. I really did miss them and my old high school days. But what hurts the most is when people change.

I have known a good friend for a couple of years now, but she has changed during the past few months. She is also dating someone, which I presume to be the cause of the change. I guess it really is true when people say that one changes when they are dating someone. However, that did not ruin my weekend. During my weekend, I went to Manhattan with my friend and we did what girls were known best to do, shop.

I had a lot of fun. We went and explored Manhattan, tried out many foods, and had an awesome adventure. I am looking forward to going back again.

My awesome cousins

A few weeks ago my dad got my cousins to drive me back to the campus. It was 11 pm at night and I finally got back on campus at around 12 to 1 am. On the way there my cousin would occasionally get road rage, which was hilarious, she got irritated because some driver was tail-gating her car. As we were passing the darkest part of the highway, my other cousin was talking about her adventure when she went to a rural state and how she heard a scary story about a dark area on the highway. Obviously, the setting of the ghost story was similar to the area we were passing through and so my cousin offered me if I wanted to hear the story. I quickly answered “No”, but she said “okay I’ll tell you anyways.”

The story was, there were a bunch of nuns on a school bus driving at night; the highway was pitched black. All of a sudden they saw a lady in a white gown in the middle of the highway. Like good nuns they got off the bus and try to offer the lady help, but then they realized that the woman did not have any feet.

After hearing the story, I yelled at my cousin for telling me such a story but she just laughed it off. Then a few days ago my cousin told me that when she dropped me off campus, they got lost for two hours. This is what I call karma.

Oh spring...

It’s just the beginning of March and it already feels like spring. Do not get me wrong I love spring, but not the part where the sky is grey and gloomy and the floor is full of giant puddles. Other than that spring is a lovely season where everything blooms, but beware of allergies. I know many of my friends hate spring because of the many types of pollen in the air. I’ve seen my sister suffer from allergies, it seemed painful with all the snuffling, watery eyes, and rashes. I could say I am a little excited for spring because I do not favor the cold weather. This year had more snow than I have ever seen in my life and I hope there would not be any more snow… Another reason why I favor the early coming of spring is that it would feel as if school would be ending soon and the blazing heat of summer would be swarming in fast as ever. I cannot wait for the summer to come although there is no school, it is time to job hunt.

the Prank Couple

There is a channel on youtube about a couple that does daily pranks on each other. The videos are so humorous yet entertaining. Both the female and male has different styles toward their devious plans for a prank. The female seems to be more drawn to physical pain as a prank, whereas the male just simply likes to pull non-physical but mental pranks.

What I find really surprising is that they are still a couple in love even though many of these pranks lead either one of them to say ‘I hate you’. I wonder if they will ever get tired of doing pranks on each other or will there be a prank that has ultimately gone too far and end their relationship… I hope not. I also wonder if they live their lives with insecurity thinking that at any moment there will be a prank. Anyhow, I enjoy their channel as a great entertainment source and hope they keep the videos coming.

bad tumblr

Few days ago my friend saw something really disturbing on her friends’ tumblr. It was a horrific picture of a little girl’s head and was body-less, something you would see in Bones or CSI. My friend told me how she was ‘scarred for life’ because of this one picture and she tells me how she does not understand why anyone would but such a disturbing picture up.

We concluded that probably since she (the friend who owns the tumblr account with the picture) saw the picture she want others to see it too and so she would not have to be alone in viewing such a horrifying picture.

It is absurd of how some people are so self-centered sometimes. I believe that only good things are meant to be shared amongst others but what this girl did was unnecessary. Because of this picture my friend committed a swear that she would hate and never go on tumblr again.
