Be warned, this is a true story. It was a chilly afternoon in spring time, freshman year of high school. My sister and I left school early to get ready for the funeral of our great aunt. We got home but our mother was not ready to leave. We found her locked in her room upstairs and we heard crashing, banging, smashing, and the sound of wailing and crying. I guessed she was just very upset over the death of our relative, but soon the sounds from upstairs became more violent. I knocked on the door to see if she was alright, and received a scream and the sound of a vase smashing against the door in response. My sister and I begged her to come out, with no success. We went downstairs to wait for our father to come home. Finally she came downstairs. She grabbed a bottle from the liquor cabinet, took a huge swig, and ran back upstairs. She locked herself in the bathroom, and then I heard the bath water running. Afraid she would try to hurt herself, I pounded on the door, begging her to come out. A few minutes later the sound of smashing had resumed. By this point my sister had called the police. As the police pulled up, my mother exited her room and commanded us to send them away. One officer came in. She told him to get out and tried to force him back through the door. He cuffed her and she fell to the floor. At this point my dad got home and was brought outside to speak with the other officer. My told the cop that the handcuffs were hurting her and asked him to take them off, but every time he came near her, she kicked him in the shins. She screamed to be left alone, and then she told him to just take his gun and shoot her in the head. The officer answered that he cannot just leave a person who is making suicidal remarks. He tried to help her up to escort her to the squad car and take her to the hospital, but she continued kicking and screaming so he could not get near her. Another police car pulled up, and later to more. Eventually there were seven officers trying to bring her to the car as she fought the whole way. They had to put riot cuffs around her ankles to keep her from kicking them. I watched from the second story widow as she fought them. Eventually they got her to the car. Two officers helped her into the back seat, as two more tried to help from the other side. She slid to other side of the car, kicked the officer on the other side in the groin with both feet, and fell out of the car into the street. The other officer on that side tried to help her up, but she bit him, hard enough that he would later have to go to the hospital. Finally she was in the car, being taken to the psychiatric ward of the Stony Brook hospital.

The craziest story I have to share

4 Years, 2 Days, 7 Hours, and 26 Minutes

That's how long it took me to hand in my two weeks and flip my boss off. It only took me a few weeks to realize that this job was going to suck the life out of me and bring me to a breaking point sooner or later. If it wasn't for the other people working there that I knew were going through the same thing I was, I probably wouldn't have taken as long as I had. 4 years, 2 days, 7 hours, and 26 minutes I had given my soul to this wretched place I feel as though I have aged at least 30 years in my time being there. For the years that I have been working there I have seen many young bright souls wither and disappear before they left. This place has a certain air to it when you are on the other side serving people and hearing your supervisor chew you out for 20 minutes before your manager chews you out for another 45 minutes. It takes a certain kind of crazy to work there and I could only keep it up for so long. Certain people I worked with, I won't name names, have been there longer than I have and from the depths of my heart I salute them for they are my heroes. They are braver and crazier than I could ever be. 4 years, 2 days, 7 hours, and 26 minutes was my record, the longest I could ever last without burning that mother down to the ground. I had to leave, it wasn't my choice my whole being was slowly fading into the darkness. The person is good, the people on the other hand are vicious, vicious, vicious, monsters. To take a beating like that mentally everyday eats away at a man's mental health and soul. If I had stayed there any longer I would just be an empty shell, a machine, a drone, just another worker bee that has slipped into the dark abyss of this damned place. 4 years, 2 days, 7 hours, and 26 minutes was how long it took for me to break free from the bonds of servitude and depression, I lasted as long I could. Now a new chapter, a new job, a new perspective on life, and a new timer...1 day, 2 hours, and 12 minutes.

Food today
I think that one of the biggest problems that society has today is the issue with food and nutrition. It seems like everywhere we go, we're put into tough situations that force us to make decisions. As a commuter, I don't really eat on campus much (not complaining). But I remember one day last semester, I was thirsty and wanted to get a bottle of water to drink from the student activities center. The problem was that when I went to go buy it, the water was over 2.00 (I dont remember the exact price) and the soda right next to it was under that. It was as if the school was screaming at me to buy the soda because its cheaper and we want you to drink it.
But it's not only schools that present this situation to us. Society in general does it all the time as well. At supermarkets, organic foods are always pricier than food of a different kind. Healthier snacks are usually more expensive than something like chips or donuts and cake. Fast food is probably the best example of this. Why go to a place where healthy food may be offered if McDonalds, BK or any other fast food chain is right around the corner for a much cheaper price.
It's getting tougher and tougher to make the right decisions. But on the other hand, people are getting more and more educated about what the right decision may be. We're becoming a more health conscious country as a whole. But that kind of just entices some companies to try harder to appeal to people's weak points. It's a push and pull in society today. We become more aware of our health, dangers of eating certain foods, and the importance of being healthy. But at the same time, we're still being coerced into tough situations.
