Nixon in china 4

Lighting creates moods. Creating a mood with light is one of the easiest and, at the same time, most difficult aspects of stage lighting. Nixon in china was performance on the winter ground, on the pub, on the room in the president of Mao, on the hotel room of president Nixon and the airport. Every scene, the mood and light color is different.
When the airplane comes out from left to right and shows the ladder to the ground; the spotlight illuminates that. So audience easily can focus what’s happening on the stage. There’s some scene use spotlight like this but it’s not that many. In lighting design, just as in literature, the concept of good and evil are often associated with light and darkness. This was same on the Nixon in china. When a scene is lit with dark and murky shadow, I can easily recognize there’s something happen soon. When Mao’s best friend died on the bed the lights slowly dimmer and get black. When a scene is brightly lit, audience instinctively relax, because we realize that nothing sneak up on this scene.
The image of light is a picture or concept of what the light should look like for a production. What I really surprised in our lighting lab class even small performance is need more than 300 lights. It’s really big number than I thought as usual. It has to be combined well with the sounds set. Also lighting designer put a light top, bottom, left, light and up. Also even some of scene he needs to give angle to character. Surrounding an actor with a number of light sources provides the potential for modeling with light.
When the president Nixon showed on the airport he just wore simple jacket which like these days. The first lady who is wife of Nixon wear a red jacket and a red skirt it looks really beautiful than other girls on the stage. In the stage there’s some people who wore blue jacket and pants shows like lower social level; worker.
