Osmosis is the diffusion of water from a region of high concentration to a region of low concertration. Cell membrane is the outpost of the cell and what it does is that it allows certain materials in and out of the cell. The cell wall provides configuration to the cell, and the cytoplasm contains water and nutrient for the cell. Selectivly Permiable membrane only lets specific materials in.
There are three difrent types solution. The first type of solution is Hypertonic which contains a higher salt concentration than normal. Hypertonic solution obsorbs all of the water. The second type is Hypotonic which has a lower osmotic concentration which means it has a lot of water, this was the type of solution that happened to the oninion and the egg. The egg inside the water got swollen and the oninion after the distelled water was put in it got bigger to. The last solution is isotonic and it is in balanced with everything like homeostasis what goes goes out.
1. If the salt solution is not provided by your teacher make it your self.
2. Use a curved oninion. Peel a thin piece for the onion.
3. Put the membrane on the slide and then put water on the slide.
4. Add a cover to the slip and observe it on the microscope.
5. Have your teacher observe it.
6. Draw a red onionion as if it was mounted in a water mount.
7. Next place a piece of paper towel on the slide and add a couple of drops of salt solution on the other side.
