Although there are many positives to studying at Stony Brook, I believe I can speak for most of the students when I say the negatives seem to really outweigh the benefits. Stony Brook is a really good research school, and the academics are very high, but it is not that fun. Stony Brook is between the city and the beaches, situated near the middle of Long Island. Some of the students are commuters, and most of the kids who dorm here, are from Long Island. So they will usually leave by Friday. So the only kids left are the ones who have sports or other commitments and the students from out of state or farther north in New York. So because of that no one really hangs out at Stony Brook on the weekends, ad the campus feels deserted, compared to the weekdays. But sometimes its nice to feel like the only one on campus on the weekends, it is really calm and peaceful.
